Fatal Collision Boxhill Road Claremont

A 13 year old youth from Glenorchy died as the result of a pedal cycle/motor vehicle crash on Main Road Claremont at the intersection of Boxhill Road at 1.30pm on Saturday 18th August 2012.

The Glenorchy youth was riding his pedal cycle downhill on Boxhill Roadheading towards Main Road.  The youth wasn’t wearing a bicycle helmet.  At this time a white Ford utility was travelling south bound on Main Road.  The vehicle which was being driven by a 38 year old man from Lutana was approaching the intersection of Boxhill Road.  The traffic lights facing the utility were green.

The youth on the pedal cycle has attempted to turn left into Main Roadbut been unable to do so and the pedal cycle has collided with the drivers side of the utility.  The impact has been in the south bound lane.

The pedal cyclist died at the scene.

The crash investigator, Sergeant Rod CARRICK, would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash or seen three (3) young pedal cyclists in the area just before the crash.
