Fatal car crash Georgetown

A 55 year old man from Lefroy in Northern Tasmania has died after a single vehicle crash on the East Tamar Highway approximately 1.5km south of George Town.  The crash occurred at about 1.00pm on Thursday 26 July 2012.

The deceased, Gwyn Rees was the driver and sole occupant of a blue Holden Commodore which was being driven in a southerly direction.  The vehicle has left the road and collided with a power pole.  The impact has severed the power pole at its base. It is not believed that speed or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.

Aurora crews were required to attend and replace the power pole.  This led to several power disruptions in the George Town area.

The crash is being investigated by George Town Police.  Any member of the public who witnessed the accident or may have observed the vehicle immediately before hand is asked to contact Tasmania Police.
