False reports of flooding in Invermay
Tasmania Police have been advised by the Launceston City Council today that there have been reports of people knocking on doors in Invermay purporting to be from the Council and advising residents that flooding of the area was imminent and that they should evacuate their homes.
Police have spoken to Launceston City Council representatives who advised that Invermay is not expected to flood and that while the weather is inclement the rainfall was not sufficient to cause flooding.
Police are concerned that these people are advising Invermay residents to leave their homes so that they can be burgled while vacant.
Anyone with information about people claiming to be from the LCC who are advising residents to evacuate their homes should contact Launceston Police Station on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
