Falls Festival – Random Breath Testing
Police conducted a total of 2,435 random breath tests and 22 oral fluid drug tests on vehicles departing the Falls Festival, Marion Bay.
The outcome of those tests is as follows:
- 13 persons charged with drink driving offences – highest reading obtained 0.120 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath.
- 5 of the 13 charged were holders of a provisional drivers licence. Provisional driver readings ranged between 0.010 to 0.042 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath.
- The drug tests all returned a negative result.
- 4 Excessive Drink Driving Notices were issued incurring instant periods of disqualification.
- A 29 yr old male from Clarendon Vale was charged twice with drink driving offences. After being bailed on the first offence of exceeding 0.05 and served with an instant disqualification notice, he was detected driving again a short time later in Copping. He was again charged with exceed 0.05 together with driving whilst disqualified.
- The majority of persons travelling through the site were responsible with regards to drink driving. Many patrons had arranged a lift home with parents or friends or otherwise the vehicle contained a designated driver.
- The provisional drivers mainly believed the alcohol would be gone from their system having not consumed alcohol for a number of hours.
Last year police checked approximately 1,500 cars with 9 persons charged and 1 x positive drug test.
