Extradition from Queensland
On Sunday 14th April 2013, two crash investigators from the Northern Road and Public Order Safety (RPOS) travelled to and extradited a 31year old male from Maroochydore, on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
Tasmania Police allege that the man was driving a Nissan wagon that crashed on the East Tamar Highway, Newnham, on Monday 6th February 2012. This crash resulted in the death of a 30 year old Rocherlea man and serious injury to another male occupant. The man was charged with a number of offences relating to this crash.
A warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court, in June 2012, on charges relating to the crash. He also has a long list of other outstanding criminal matters.
He was arrested by Queensland Police near Caloundra on Friday 12th April 2013. An extradition hearing was held in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday 15th April 2013, with the Tasmanian Police officers in attendance. The man, formerly of Rocherlea, was remanded into their custody returned to Launceston yesterday where he was held pending an appearance in the Launceston Court of Petty Sessions, at 11.30am today.
