EXCESSIVE SPEEDING – CAMBRIDGE ROAD – CAMBRIDGE

Inspector Ward would like to remind motorists to keep the ‘Fatal Five’ in mind when driving on Tasmanian roads.

To help ensure our roads are safe, Southern based police are focusing on the ‘Fatal Five’ contributors to road deaths and serious injury crashes, in the lead up to Easter.

 Speeding
 Failure to wear Seatbelts
 Alcohol and drugs
 Distraction
 Fatigue

Police from Southern Road and Public Order Services intercepted a 29 year old man driving on Cambridge Road, Cambridge at 7.00 pm, last night.

The motorist was travelling at a speed of 115km/h in a 60km/h zone, 55 km/h over the limit. As a result he was issued an infringement and now faces 4 months disqualification from driving, the loss of 6 demerit points and a fine of $900.

The location where he was intercepted was in the vicinity of a Primary School, Petrol Service Station and Take Away shop.

The ability to reduce speed, and react appropriately in an emergency situation is decreased as the speed of a vehicle increases.

Travelling at 115 km/h in a 60 zone is unacceptable, and the consequences of travelling at such high speed in a 60 zone could be significant and are likely to affect more than just the driver.

Inspector Ward would also like to remind motorists to drive to the conditions, remain alert at all times, and ensure your vehicle is roadworthy.
