Yesterday afternoon at 3pm an EPIRB was activated at Lake Judd.

Tasmania Police sent the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the area, but bad weather prevented access.

This morning the helicopter was again deployed and dropped one Search and Rescue officer into the area, and the officer is with the party of 5 bushwalkers who activated the beacon. Four other Search and Rescue officers are walking into the area.

It is understood everyone in the party is safe, but communications into the area are difficult and there are no further details.

The weather remains poor and the helicopter is grounded at the moment. 

At this stage it is unclear whether the group will walk out of the area.
