Tasmania Police were notified of an EPIRB activation on the Overland Track at around 3.30pm this afternoon.  The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to attend the location.  However, due to inclement weather has to divert to Launceston.

The EPIRB was registered to a fit and experienced 21 year old male walker from Victoria and police and liaising with the family throughout.

Western District Search and Rescue personnel, along with an Ambulance Tasmania Paramedic will be commencing a land based walk into the area at around 8pm this evening from Dove Lake.

The rescue helicopter will continue to attempt to access the area throughout the evening.
