Elderly man winched to safety

At 4.30a.m on Tuesday 15 March 2011, the Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter was activated to attend Mooreville, south of Burnie in response to a 72 year old male patient suffering from a heart condition and hypothermia.

The man had been returning from a nearby river where he had been fishing.

After locating the man in nearby bushland, a Tasmanian Ambulance and Police Rescue crew were winched to his location, and he was winched from the area and flown to the North West Regional Hospital, Burnie for treatment.

The man remains in a stable condition.
