A 67 year old man from Herdsmans Cove was charged with Driving Under the influence and Exceed 0.05 yesterday afternoon.

Observations were made of a white Hyundai sedan colliding with the middle island at the intersection of Lamprill Circle and East Derwent Highway at about 1.10pm yesterday.

Shortly after police were travelling towards the Hyundai when they observed it swerving left and right on the highway as it approached the Scott Road roundabout. The vehicle was then observed to mount the middle island and cross over into Scott Road before crashing into a ‘No standing’ sign and finally crashing into the curb on the wrong side of the road.

The man returned a reading of .245. He was charged and issued with an excessive drink driver notice for a period of 24 months.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the driving behaviour of the vehicle prior to the incident.
