Drug importation and trafficking charges

A 23 year old Cradoc man was arrested and charged yesterday as part of a joint investigation involving Tasmania Police, Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS).

Police will allege the man imported approximately 1 kilogram of MDMA powder into Australia from overseas.

The investigation began when ACBPS officers in Victoria located the MDMA in an air cargo package from the United Kingdom on Sunday, 16 February 2014.

As a result of the joint investigation, the man was charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug and trafficking a controlled drug, and will appear in court at a later date.

Police will allege the seized MDMA has a potential street value of around $350,000, and are pleased to have been able to prevent this amount of the drug from being sold throughout Tasmania.
