Drug Charges
Two people have been charged with trafficking after Western police seized more than half a kilo of ice and more than $100,000 in cash following a targeted operation.
A 52 year old West Ulverstone man was arrested after he allegedly evaded police in a vehicle at Ulverstone on Thursday 12 September.
The passenger allegedly fled the scene on foot before police located a backpack containing 135 grams of methylamphetamine (ice), as well as $3,225 cash inside the vehicle.
The driver – the 52 year old West Ulverstone man – was taken into custody.
As part of their investigations, members of Western Drugs and Firearms Unit conducted subsequent searches in the Ulverstone area, locating a significant quantity of methylamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA and stolen property.
During the searches police seized approximately $100,000 in cash – believed to be proceeds of crime – as well as 527 grams of methylamphetamine, 74 grams of cocaine, and 154 grams of MDMA.
A further search of a private residence in West Ulverstone led police to seize a further $4910 in cash – also believed to be proceeds of crime.
The driver of the vehicle has since been charged with multiple offences including trafficking in a controlled substance, evade police, unlawful possession of property, and dealing with proceeds of crime.
The passenger of the vehicle – a 36 year old Ulverstone man – presented to Devonport Police Station and has since been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and possess a controlled drug.
Both men were detained to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court today.
