Western District – Drug and Firearm Seizures

During Wednesday 9/3/16 and Thursday 10/3/16 Detectives from Western Drug Investigation Services and Devonport CIB conducted searches in the Sassafras and Railton areas.

3 stolen firearms, 1 unregistered firearm, a significant quantity of ammunition, a quantity of stolen tools and cannabis plants were recovered from a search in the Sassafras area.  As a result of the search Aaron Craig Newitt, aged 27, from Sassafras was arrested and charged with numerous firearms and drug related offences. Newitt appeared at the Devonport Magistrates court yesterday in relation to the charges.

Further unrelated searches were conducted by Western Drug Investigation Services on the 10^th March 2016 in the Railton area which resulting in the seizure of 148 mature cannabis plants. As a result a 31year  old Railton man was interviewed and will be charged with Trafficking in a Controlled substance and minor firearms offences.
