Driving Conditions
Tasmanian motorists, particularly those in the North, North West and West, are advised that driving conditions are currently hazardous due to ice and fog. A number of roads are subject to black ice including the Bass Highway and Ridgley Road.
Since 6.30am this morning police have attended in excess of 10 crashes however fortunately there have been no serious injuries.
These are conditions and circumstances, that when driving will require extra care by all motorists. The most important safety action to be taken in these conditions is to slow down. Also those motorists who can delay their trip are urged to do so.
A number of other safety actions are recommended that can be taken by motorists whilst driving in adverse weather conditions:
- Be alert at all times, pay attention to road warning signs that display hazardous conditions
- Drive with headlights or park lights on at times of poor visibility
- Ensure your vehicle is roadworthy and the tyres are in good condition and are correctly inflated
- Leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you, your stopping distance will need to be increased if the road is icy.
