Driver Rescued From Flood Waters

A 68 year old man from Sheffield and his 51 year old female partner are lucky to be alive today, after a vehicle they were travelling in became caught in flood waters around 6pm last night.

Despite clear and visible road closure signs, the man drove his Crysler sedan through the closed section of road on Bridle Track Road, Beulah.

The vehicle subsequently became trapped, with water levels reaching window height on the car.

The female passenger was able to contact emergency services to request assistance.

The vehicle was eventually towed out of the area by a local resident with the pair physically unharmed.

Acting Sergeant Boyd from Devonport Police said “SES Personnel, Tasmania Police and Councils have been working tirelessly all week to ensure safety to the public.”

“Incidents like this are frustrating when there is considerable media attention relating to the flood levels in the area and adequate and visible signage positioned in dangerous areas.”

Police remind all motorists to drive to the conditions and familiarise themselves with road closures prior to their journey by accessing the Tasmania Police website Community Alerts.
