A 39 year old driver has had his vehicle clamped after being caught speeding at 180km on the Bass Highway between Ulverstone and Devonport.

Police from Western Road and Public Order Services detected a late model VW Golf hatchback travelling at 180km/h in a 110km/h speed zone on the Bass Highway between Ulverstone and Devonport about 8.30pm last night.

Police intercepted the vehicle and spoke with the 39 year old male driver. As a result the vehicle was clamped by police and the driver will be issued with an infringement notice (disqualified for 4 months along with a significant fine and demerit points).

Road and Public Order Services officers are actively patrolling all areas of the state and enforcing traffic laws in an effort to reduce the state’s road toll.

Police remind drivers that speed is one of the major causes of serious and fatal crashes along with drink driving and inattention and urge drivers to drive to the speed limits and road conditions.
