Driver detected three times over the legal limit at 8 am

A 57 year old man from Wynyard has lost his licence for 12 months after being charged with a drink driving offence.  He was 3 times over the legal limit.

The driver was detected about 8 am by Burnie Police who were conducting a traffic operation in Cooee.  He recorded a reading of 0.151%.

The driver was charged with exceed 0.05 and bailed to appear in Burnie Magistrates Court early in the New Year.  The driver was also issued with an immediate 12 months driving disqualification.

“Motorists who consume alcohol the night before are reminded to be careful when driving the next day.  This is because they may not only exceed the alcohol limit of .05%, but put themselves and other road users at risk of serious injury or death,” Sergeant Adrian Mollon said.

“This should serve as a reminder to all motorists to give themselves enough time for alcohol to leave their system, before driving a motor vehicle”.

“Particularly at this time of year police are paying significant attention to alcohol and drug testing, and for a motorist to return such a reading at that time of day is disappointing.”
