Driver detected 40km/h over speed limit and four times the alcohol limit
A Brighton man has lost his licence for 12 months and been charged after he was detected driving 40km/h above the speed limit and four times the alcohol limit in Montrose last night.
The 44-year-old man was charged with:
- Exceed Speed Limit – after overtaking police at speed on the Brooker Highway, detected at 120km/h in the 80km/h zone. He was also issued an immediate
12 months driving disqualification. - Drive a Motor Vehicle with Exceeding Prescribed Alcohol Limit – after returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.209% – four times the limit.
He was bailed to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court on 29 October.
“With two motorists detected driving with a blood alcohol reading four times the limit in just two days, it’s timely to remind drivers of the very real risks associated with drink driving,” said Acting Inspector Ian Mathewson.
“If you get behind the wheel of a vehicle when you’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs you’re putting yourself and others at the risk of serious injury and death.
“Don’t do it, if you’re planning on drinking please make a responsible decision on how to get home safely and never get behind the wheel of a vehicle.”
