Driver Awareness in Rural Areas

Drivers of recreational vehicles (RV’s) in the Arthur-Pieman area have been urged to drive safely, after a recent operation in the area.

Tasmania Police and Parks & Wildlife recently worked together on an operation in the area to increase driver awareness and responsibility in remote and rural areas, and in particular the concerning the use and ownership of recreational vehicles (RV’s).

The operation resulted in 11 infringement notices (five cautions) being issued for traffic and parks matters, including unregistered vehicles, and the unlawful use of vehicles within parks areas.

“Over 90 drivers were breath-tested, with one drink driver returning a moderate blood alcohol reading,” said Acting Inspector Patrick Ryan.

“RV serious crashes and fatalities do occur in the North-West. We will be conducting a similar joint operation later this year to ensure that everyone in those areas can enjoy a safe holiday period,” he said.
