Drink driver caught more than four times the limit
Police have charged a 27-year-old Waratah man with high range drink driving after he was intercepted by police on Terrylands Street, Burnie at midnight.
The man returned a breath analysis reading of 0.201, more than four times the legal limit.
Inspector Adrian Shadbolt said the man has been charged and had his licence suspended for 12 months.
“The actions of this driver are inexcusable, and it was very fortunate this did not result in a serious crash,” he said.
“We’ve had lives lost on Tasmanian roads in recent days, and with the holidays upon us I urge all drivers to pause and think before you get behind the wheel.”
“The safety of yourself, your family and other road users needs to be at the forefront of your decisions.”
“Over the coming days and weeks expect to see police actively targeting driving offences across Tasmania, and please – if you see any concerning driving behaviour on our roads, call police on 131 444 or contact Crime Stoppers Tasmania.”
