Double fatality on Port Sorell Road, Wesley Vale

Police have confirmed that the two vehicle crash which occurred on Port Sorell Road, Wesley vale at 3.15pm today was a fatality.

This tragic incident involving a silver Mazda hatch and a prime mover towing a refrigerated container. The occupants of the Mazda, a mother and daughter aged 60 and 36, died instantly as a result of the crash. The driver of the truck received minor injuries and was taken to the Mersey Hospital for treatment.

Port Sorell Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was cleared.

Initial enquiries into the crash indicate that the driver of the Mazda has lost control of the vehicle in wet weather, causing the vehicle to cross to the incorrect side of the road and collide with the truck travelling in the opposite direction.

This tragic incident highlights the need for all drivers to take care on wet roads, especially at times when it has rained for the first time in an extended period. Police implore all drivers to take care on the roads as winter driving conditions approach.
