Dog Attacks – Oatlands area
Over the weekend of the 25th and 26th of August 2012, Oatlands Police attended three separate incidents of dogs attacking animals in the Oatlands area. The first report was of further attacks on new born lambs continuing from the week before. From that incident some lambs had been examined by a Veterinary Officer at the Animal Health Laboratory at Prospect and it was established that the injuries were consistent with dog bite wounds. These incidents have occurred on farm land off York Plans Road and the offending animal has not been identified. Police are requesting any information which may assist investigations in this report.
The second report was an incident where a dog escaped from a yard and attacked fowl in a neighbouring yard.
The third incident was a report of seven lambs being attacked with some being killed at Parattah. In both of these incidents the offending dog has been identified.
Police would like to remind dog owners of their responsibilities in relation to preventing dogs from being at large. The owners of dogs at large risk being prosecuted and if their dog attacks another animal, may have to pay restitution or face an application to have their dog put down.
