Diverse Mix Of New Recruits Inducted To The Force

Twenty new police recruits will be inducted into Tasmania Police at the Police Academy this afternoon.

“With a broad multi-cultural background and an average age of 25 years, today’s inductees make a diverse Recruit Course 3/2016,” said Commissioner Hine.

“I am proud to welcome our newest Recruits into the service as they embark on a fulfilling, rewarding and life-changing career,” said Commissioner Hine.

Of the 9 women and 11 men being inducted today, several have relocated to pursue a career with Tasmania Police.

22 year old Cameron Robertson has relocated from one island to another, coming from New Zealand to Tasmania.

Having today chosen to commence a future where they will serve and protect their community, are:

  • Candice Barron – 23yrs – from Cygnet: Holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours and a Bachelor of Behavioural Science. Recently worked as a medical receptionist. Is an active Army Reservist.
  • Abu Chowdhury – 31yrs – from VIC: Holds a Certificate 2 in Security Operations. Previously worked as an Emergency Response Team Officer. Has an interest in stage performance as a stand-up comedian. Originally from Bangladesh. Relocated from Victoria.
  • Sean Dougan – 18yrs – from Margate: Recently completed study at Guilford Young College. Was employed in retail whilst studying.
  • Jack Farnell – 19yrs – from Bridgewater: Recently completed study at Claremont College. Previously employed in retail working with produce and customer service. Has a keen interest in Football.
  • Henrietta Ferguson – 27yrs – from West Hobart: Has a strong academic background in Business Administration and Management. Recently worked as an Executive Officer at University of Tasmania.
  • Rachael Fitzsimmons – 23yrs – from NSW: Holds a Certificate 3 in Outdoor Recreation. Previously worked as a Hotel Supervisor. Has a strong interest in all sports and has played State league soccer. Relocated to NSW.
  • Ebony Foster – 22yrs – from WA: Holds a Certificate 2 in Business Management. Recently worked in the retail industry and as a full-time nanny.
  • James Heron – 23yrs – from Sandy Bay: Holds a Bachelor Degree in Business majoring in Accounting and Finance. Previously worked as a removalist on a casual basis. Has a strong interest in numerous sports.
  • Christopher Jackson – 23yrs – from Hadspe: Is a qualified painter. Previously worked in the Launceston area as a painter and decorator.
  • Ryan Jeffery – 38yrs – from QLD: Has experience in First Aid Training and Dive instruction. Previously worked as an Assistant Manager in retail. Relocated from QLD.
  • Erika MacFadgen – 27yrs – from NSW: Holds a Certificate 4 in Youth Work. Previously worked as a Nanny and as a Youth Worker. Relocated from NSW.
  • Phillip Money – 22yrs – from Devonport: Completed the Introduction to Policing at the University of Tasmania this year. Recently worked in the roofing industry as a labourer.
  • Kathleen Parker – 28yrs – from NSW: Holds an Associated Policing Degree obtained through Charles Sturt University. Previously worked as an Office Manager. Relocated from NSW.
  • Benjamin Pearce-Lieutier – 23yrs – from Launceston: Holds a Bachelor Degree in Health and Physical Activity Studies obtained through University Tasmania. Is actively engaged in Australian Army Reserves.
  • Cameron Robertson – 22yrs – from NZ: Holds a Bachelor of Arts (Classic and History). Previously worked as a farm hand and labourer. Relocated from New Zealand.
  • Hailey Sinclair – 24yrs – from North Hobart: Holds a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice; a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Law with Honours. Previously worked at the Tasmania Police Prosecution Service on a volunteer basis. Has previously worked as a Team Manager in Recruitment and Marketing.
  • Kerri-Ann Talbot – 30yrs – from Granton: Holds a Certificate 3 in Business Administration. Previously worked in the retail jewellery industry, more recently as a Manager.
  • Holly Thorp – 31yrs – from WA: Holds a Certificate 4 in Nursing. Previously worked in the Royal Australian Navy as a Leading Seaman Medic. Relocated from WA.
  • Joshua Thorpe – 28yrs – from Lauderdale: Holds a Certificate 4 in Small Business Management. Recently worked as an Account Manager and Business Specialist in the telecommunications industry. Travelled the world extensively as a member of the Australian National Volleyball team.
  • Adam Upston – 28yrs – from Launceston: Holds a Certificate 4 in Building and Construction. Completed study at the University of Tasmania in preparing for a police career. Previously worked as a carpenter within the education sector.

Course Directors Sergeant Stacey and Senior Constable Lang will lead the Recruits through their 28 week course and 3 week in-field training, guiding them through a raft of scenario based training, investigation tactics, operational skills, road policing and physical training.

“We will be with them every step of the way to instruct and encourage their professional and personal development,” said Sergeant Stacey.

“Exciting and challenging times are ahead for our newest Recruits and we look forward to watching their progress to become members of our force.”
