Disappointed by Traffic Results
On 27 January 2012, Tasmania Police officers from Bellerive Traffic Services conducted a co-ordinated traffic operation on the Tasman Highway at Cambridge over a 2 hour period, from 4pmto 6pm. As a result of the operation 21 drivers were detected speeding. That equates to one offence detected every five minutes. The worst speeding offences detected included:
1 x motorist travelling at 166km in the 110km zone
1 x motorcyclist travelling at 142km in the 110km zone
1 x motorcyclist travelling at 166km in the 110km zone
"The number of motorist’s detected speeding was very disappointing. Those high speeds detected are a concern and pose a significant danger to all motorists on our roads. Motorists are reminded to obey the speed limit and be attentive at all times," stated Sergeant Troy Hodge of Bellerive Traffic.
"People have celebrated Australia day and celebrations will continue over the weekend. There will be a significant police presence on the roads during the weekend and motorists will be caught should they speed, drink and drive or commit other offences on our roads" stated Sergeant Hodge.
