Detection of high range drink driver

Launceston Police have this afternoon charged a 54 year old Claremont woman with drink driving and other offences after she allegedly crashed into a fence while trying to drive back to Hobart.

Police were called after the woman, who came to Launceston for a concert over the weekend, crashed her car into a fence.

The woman recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.194. She has been charged with:

Driving under the influence

Exceed 0.05 – 0.194

Driver convicted of 3 or more offences within a 10 year period with alcohol in body

Fail to comply with conditions of a drivers licence.

The driving behaviour and the high range of the blood alcohol level are a concern to police, especially as we approach the festive season.

“This driver posed a real and significant risk to herself and other road users and she has shown a complete lack of consideration for other members of the community,” said Inspector Michael Johnston.
