Derwent Park Road crash

A 19 year old Brighton man is in a critical condition in the Royal Hobart Hospital after having been involved in a single vehicle crash on Derwent Park Road, Moonah at approximately 12.30am on Saturday 6 November 2010.

The injured man was driving a white Berlina station wagon in an easterly direction when it left the road and struck a fence and gate approximately 100 metres east of the intersection of Main Road.

A short time before the crash uniform police observed the vehicle doing ‘burnouts’ on Springfield Avenue at Moonah. Police have commenced to follow the Berlina. The Berlina has travelled down Springfield Avenue, across Main Road into Derwent Park Road at an excessive speed prior to the driver losing control and colliding with the gate and fence.

As a result of the crash Derwent Park Road between the railway crossing and Main Road was closed for several hours for investigations to take place

Investigators would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash or seen the vehicle prior to the incident.
