Deliberately lit house fires – Ravenswood

Approximately 6pm on Wednesday 6 July 2016, Tasmania Fire Service was called to a unit fire in Faraday Street, Ravenswood.  The unit was vacant at the time of the incident. As a result of the fire the unit received extensive damage with an early estimate at $150,000.  Fire Scene Investigators determined the fire was deliberately lit.

 

On 7 July 2016 about 4.20am, Tasmania Fire Service was called to a house fire in Mornington Drive at Ravenswood. Once again the dwelling suffered extensive damage of approximately $150,000. The Fire Scene Examiner from Tasmanian Fire Service determined this fire to also be deliberately lit.

 

Police attended both scenes and investigations by Northern CIB are now underway.  At this time a link between both fires has not been ruled out.

 

Police are appealing to the public for information in relation to both matters. Police are particularly interested in any witnesses who may have seen youths running from the Faraday Street location.
