On 20 June 2012 an inmate of Risdon Prison was at a day training program at a training facility in Derwent Park. Staff from the prison attended the facility to collect the inmate at approximately 3:20pm when it was discovered that the inmate had absconded from the facility.

The escaped inmate is Damien Gordon Deeks aged 36. Deeks is described as having brown short cropped hair, is clean shaven, has green eyes, is slim and is approximately 180cm tall.

During the course of the investigation, nine houses were searched last night and today, however, Damien Deeks has not yet been located. 

Investigators are following specific lines of enquiry.  Persons found assisting Damien Deeks in avoiding apprehension are committing a crime and will likely be prosecuted.

Damien Deeks is not considered a danger to the public, however police advise not to approach him if sighted, but contact police on 131 444.
