Deceased Walker – Mount Ossa
Late yesterday afternoon police were advised of a man on Mount Ossa with head injuries after falling while returning from the summit. The man died from his injuries.
The Westpac Police Rescue helicopter was despatched to the scene and located the body of the 59 year old man from Canberra on the Mount Ossa walking track.
The deceased had been walking with his 20 year old son when he apparently fell on a steep section of the track, sustaining injuries.
A commercial guiding group heard the son’s calls for help and came to his assistance and were then able to notify authorities by Satellite phone.
Police, SES and Ambulance personnel are currently involved in the extrication of the deceased. Weather in the area is currently hampering these efforts with the helicopter grounded due to poor weather. A ground party comprising Police and SES are currently walking to the area to provide assistance.
