Deceased person located in a vehicle in bushland in the Buckland-Nugent area
Police have this afternoon located the body of a deceased person in a vehicle in bushland in the Buckland-Nugent area.
Around 11.45am, police received a report from a member of the public that a vehicle of interest – a blue/grey Holden Colorado – was travelling on the Arthur Highway at Sorell. Police acted on the belief that this may have been the vehicle owned by Mr Robert Greig, who is wanted by police in respect of the shootings at Glenfern and New Norfolk two weeks ago.
Police resources including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were deployed to the area to search for the vehicle.
Members in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter saw the vehicle in the Nugent area, and they maintained observation of the vehicle.
The vehicle went off-road into bushland in the Nugent-Buckland area, where it was seen to catch fire.
Police on the ground attended the scene a short time later, where a single deceased occupant was located inside the vehicle. A formal identification of the deceased person will need to be conducted in the coming days.
At this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious, however police will fully investigate the circumstances. This will include a post mortem and formal identification.
Police have notified the family of the incident and will keep them informed of any developments.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
