Sadly, a man has died while climbing at Mt Geryon in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.

Police and emergency services were notified by a member of a climbing party that a man had fallen from a significant height while climbing the south peak of Mt Geryon about 9.30am this morning.

Tasmania Police including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival access to the difficult terrain was possible via winch and the man was confirmed deceased a short time ago.

Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this sad time.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
