Dangerous Driving Incident
Police are seeking witnesses in relation to a dangerous driving incident in the North and North West of the State on 3/12/14
Police are currently investigating serious driving offences that occurred throughout the day of 3 December 2014 in the North and North West of the state.
The male driver of a white Holden Commodore station wagon committed a petrol stealing in Wynyard earlier in the day. Several hours later he was reported to police acting in a bizarre manner at a Sassafras service station.
Later that afternoon there were reports of the vehicle driving dangerously at various locations around Launceston. At 3pm police saw the vehicle driving in a dangerous manner in the Norwood area. An attempt to intercept the vehicle was unsuccessful and police did not pursue.
Shortly after, the vehicle was reported in Kings Meadows, driving in excess of speed limits, and weaving in and out of traffic. It is believed that it also nearly caused a head-on collision with a small red car which was forced to take evasive action.
To ensure community safety together with the need to stop the male, police employed a strategy utilizing road spikes and unmarked vehicles.
The vehicle continued to drive in a dangerous manner and shortly thereafter collided with a car in Invermay. The four occupants of that car were not injured.
Minutes later the vehicle was ‘spiked’ in Holbrook Street. It came to a stop on Mayne Street where the driver decamped.
Police cordoned off the area and searched yards until the driver was located. He was found at 4:20pm and was taken into custody.
Police would like to hear from any member of the public who witnessed this vehicle driving in a dangerous manner. Messages can be left for investigators by contacting Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Launceston Police on 6777 3945.
