Damage to Hobart hotel

A 45 year old man has been charged by Detectives following damage caused yesterday at Hotel Collins, 58 Collins Street, Hobart.

“It’s alleged the man activated sprinkler equipment inside the Hotel, causing nearly $100,000 damage to carpet, plaster and electrical fittings,” said Detective Acting Inspector Craig Joel.

“Staff at the Hotel acted quickly to prevent further damage and it is to their credit that no guests were injured in the damage spree.”

The damage caused significant disruption to Hotel operations and 46 guests have been relocated to other accommodation in Hobart.

The man has been charged with causing damage to property and committing a nuisance. He will appear in an out of sessions court tonight.

BURGLARY. A 13 year old boy has been charged with the burglary of a house in Alamo Close in Blackman’s Bay yesterday. The home owner disturbed the youth in the laundry of the house, who then fled. Uniform and CIB Detectives attended and commenced investigations. The boy will appear in court later today.

BURGLARY. A 35 year old man was charged with committing burglaries in Newtown over the last month. A house, business and then a motor vehicle at Bridgewater was burgled, and goods stolen. Police allege the man stole a wallet and cash. The man has been remanded in custody and will appear on 29 September 2014 by video link.
