Damage Caused by Weather Conditions
On Monday 28 July 2014 between 6:00pm and 7:00pm the north-west coast of Tasmania was subject to thunderstorms and windy conditions.  Police within the Devonport Division attended a number of incidents that related to damage caused by the storm.

In William Street, Devonport a tree fell across the road bringing power lines down across the road.  William Street between Charles Street and Valley Road was closed to traffic from 6:15pm to 9:45pm while the damage was attended to by Tas Fire Service, Aurora, Devonport City Council and SES workers.  The tree across the road caused a minor motor vehicle accident, where no injuries were sustained.

At the Esplande, Turners Beach there was tree damage and power lines down in residents’ yards. The Turners Beach Bowls Club sustained major damage to the building’s roof.  Police restricted access to Turners Beach to residents only for a short period of time.  Tas Fire Service, Aurora, Central Coast Council and SES workers assisted at Turners Beach.

Police also attended to trees and/or power lines also across roads at Leith, Frankford Road, Wesley Vale and Torquay Road, East Devonport.  Police would like to remind road users to drive to road and weather conditions and limit unnecessary travel during periods of inclement weather.
