Crimes at Hobart, Glenorchy and Geilston Bay

Detectives from Hobart, Glenorchy and Bellerive are currently coordinating investigations into a number of crimes that occurred overnight on Thursday the 5th of May.

The crimes commenced with the theft of a Ford sedan from West Hobart and this vehicle being abandoned in New Town.  Another vehicle, a Subaru sedan, was then stolen from nearby and believed involved in:

  • The burglary of Putters Adventure Golf in Moonah
  • A “make off without payment” from a Caltex service station in 200 Main Road, Moonah (the vehicle obtained petrol and drove off without paying)
  • An armed Robbery at the Geilston Bay Fish and Chip Shop, and
  • An armed Robbery at the Caltex Service Station 138 Main Road Moonah (separate to the Caltex involving the make off without payment).

The Stolen Subaru has been recovered by police at the Argyle Street Car Park Hobart.

Currently three males are detained by police, two juveniles and an adult aged 21.

Forensic examinations are continuing of all crime scenes combined with the examination of various CCTV footage.

The armed robberies involved threats with knives and whilst no cash was obtained from the Geilston Bay Fish and Chip Shop, an amount of cash was taken from the Caltex Service Station.

No injury was caused to any person, however the potential for such injury was always present and Detective Inspector David Plumpton advises that the lack of injury can be “classified more as luck than any attitude of offenders.”
