Crime Stoppers Week 2016 – Wraps Up

Crime Stoppers Week wraps up in Launceston today, bringing to a close another successful campaign aimed at helping to keep drugs of our streets and our communities safer.

“Throughout the week we have received twice our normal call volume, demonstrating that Tasmanians continue to participate in removing illicit drugs from our streets and helping to abate criminal behaviour,” Ron Franks, General Manager of Crime Stoppers Tasmania said.

“Crime Stoppers Tasmania is the anonymous connection between the community and police. Police cannot be everywhere all the time, but members of the community can play their part.”

“On behalf of the Board of Crime Stoppers Tasmania, I would like to thank the Tasmanian community for once again being involved in this important campaign,” Chair of the Crime Stoppers Tasmania Board, Amanda Castray said.

Although this is the largest campaign run each year, community safety doesn’t end at the conclusion of Crime Stoppers Week.
“The end of Crime Stoppers Week prepares us for the rest of the year ahead. We will be continuing to engage with communities across Tasmania and doing our bit to help create a safer Tasmania for our children, for our families, for each other,” said Ms Castray.

Mr Franks reminds people that stopping or preventing criminal behaviour can be as easy as an anonymous phone call.

“We need people to continue to report anything unusual or suspicious, and saving the Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000 number in your phone means that it’s easy to call if you ever have the need,” he said.

“Drugs have the potential to negatively impact on the physical health of users and unfortunately there are often flow-on effects in terms of associated criminal activity. But working together we can break that cycle and make our homes and communities safer places to live,” he said.

Crime Stoppers Tasmania operates as an independent non-profit, community organisation that supports crime solving through providing anonymous mechanisms for reporting crime.
