Crash Tasman Hwy – Truck and Ute
Launceston Police are investigating a Crash involving a Truck and a Flat Tray Ute laden with spraying equipment on the Tasman Highway east of Abels Hill road intersection.
The crash occurred at 3:45pm on 19 November 2014 while both vehicles were travelling west on the Tasman Highway.
The Ute was travelling a low speed while in the process of turning into a driveway. At this time, the Truck has impacted with the rear of the Ute before slamming into a tree causing in excess of $150,000 damage. The Ute was subsequently pushed a distance up the road before resting on its roof causing 600 litre chemical spill. The chemical was heavily diluted and did not result in a negative environmental impact.
Tasmania Police and Transport Inspectors attended the scene and the investigation is continuing. Initial investigation indicated that speed or alcohol/drugs were not a factor and it appears the crash occurred due to inattention.
Police who attended the scene were amazed that neither driver suffered serious injury especially considering the high impact force the Truck sustained colliding with the tree.
Tasmania Police encourage any one who may have witnessed this crash to contact Launceston Police on 131 444.
