Cradle Mountain walker death
At approximately 2pm yesterday, Monday 19 March, emergency services were notified of a man at the summit of Cradle Mountain who required urgent medical attention.
The man was treated by an off duty paramedic who was also walking on the mountain, he was assisted in providing CPR by several other walkers but unfortunately their attempts to save the man were unsuccessful.
The Westpac rescue helicopter was on its way to Cradle Mountain yesterday but was unable to land due to weather conditions.
Two Search & rescue officers were flown into Kitchen Hut late yesterday and walked to the summit where they stayed with the body overnight.
This morning, a further ground crew of Police Search and Rescue and SES personnel are walking to the summit to assist with the retrieval of the body as weather conditions have again prevented any use of the helicopter, however if the conditions improve, the helicopter usage will be reassessed.
The deceased was a 51 year old man from the United Kingdom and the NOK are being notified through our International Liaison officers.
He was walking with a companion, also from the UK, who is now off the Mountain.
