Counterfeit $50 notes being used in Northern Tasmania

Police have received approximately 20 separate reports of counterfeit $50 notes being used in Northern Tasmania over the past fortnight, with increased activity in the Launceston CBD over the past 24 hours.

The notes are bearing the same serial number, HH 13863456 and are a good likeness for a real $50 note but are slightly smaller and different weight.  The most identifying feature of the $50 note that the public should look out for is that the white stars in the clear window are of poor quality and appear to have been hand painted.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at crimestopperstas.com.au
