Coroner’s findings on baby death welcomed
Tasmania Police has welcomed the Coroner’s findings into the death of a newborn baby girl in 2011.
On Monday 17 October 2011, at about 9.00 am, aKingston Council maintenance worker found a deceased newborn baby in a wooded reserve off Willow Avenue, Kingston. An investigation was commenced to determine the circumstances of the baby’s death and identify the mother with the aim of ensuring she received medical treatment and support.
“Our primary concern has always been for the health and wellbeing of the baby’s mother and also for her family,” saidDetective Acting Inspector Craig Joel.
“Should any new information come to light, we will investigate it with the best interests of the mother as our priority,” he said.
“After two years, I still urge the mother and her family to let someone know they are OK. This could even be done anonymously to a friend or health worker,” said Detective Acting Inspector Joel.
“The investigation will remain open and the Coroner‘s recommendations will be adopted,” he said.
