Confiscated “hooning” car to assist with road rescue

On 11 December 2012, the Launceston Magistrate’s Court ordered that a 22 year old man from Summerhill lost his vehicle permanently under the provisions of the anti-hooning legislation. The vehicle had been sized earlier by police in April when the man was caught driving whilst disqualified.

Police are donating the confiscated vehicle to the State Emergency Service (SES) for training in Road Crash Rescue.

In the Northern Region the SES have road crash rescue crews that respond to perform patient extraction using the jaws of life.

Oliver Breeze the Acting SES Regional Manager (North) said that "The hooning vehicles will be utilised for accredited training for our rescue crews, taking a vehicle off the roads that was driven dangerously and instead putting them to good use".
