Collins St Crash
At around 0115 hrs on 19 March 2011 a 22 year old woman from Bridgewater was driving a Nissan Patrol 4WD on Collins Street, when she crashed into the Cash Converters building at the intersection of Murray Street. The vehicle had allegedly run a red light and was swerving on the road prior to the crash.
The driver was trapped for a short time and was extricated from the vehicle. She was conveyed to the RHH where blood tests were taken. These will be tested for alcohol and/or drug use. The woman remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Accident investigators attended the scene and the circumstances are still being investigated. The exact cause of the collision is still undetermined.
The Hobart City Council blocked pedestrian access to the area and the buildings integrity was checked by an engineer.
