Cold Case Unit – Murder Charge
Tasmania Police have today arrested and charged a 59-year-old Lake Leake man with the July 1992 murder of 37-year-old Howrah man Ronald Frederick Jarvis in bushland near Nugent in South East Tasmania.
Mr Jarvis was last seen in Hobarton 31 July 1992 and was reported missing in August that year. His skeletal remains were located in dense bushland near Nugent on 11 February 1993.
Inspector Glenn Lathey said the arrest was the culmination of a lengthy investigation by the Cold Case Unit, and was completed by the unit just prior to its closure in December 2011.
Police will allege the man murdered Mr Jarvis by shooting him in a bush location near Nugent on or about 31 July 1992.
The man is due to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Thursday 26 January 2012 charged with one count of murder.
Police attached to the Cold Case Unit prior to its closure conducted today’s arrest.
