Clandestine laboratory detected, St Leonards

At about 1.30 pm on Thursday 27 October 2011, police from the Northern District Drug Investigation Service attended an address at St Leonards. This was as a result of an ongoing investigation regarding the manufacturing of methylamphetamine, more commonly known as “speed”.

Drug squad personnel were assisted by members of other police sections with a search of the residence. Tas Fire personnel also attended the scene to ensure the safety of the neighbouring residents and the attending police.

“As a result of searching the premises today a quantity of relevant drug exhibits have been seized” said Detective Senior Sergeant Ruth Orr of the Northern Drug squad. Detective Senior Sergeant Orr further stated that it was believed that the occupants of the address had been involved in the manufacturing of speed, in a clandestine laboratory, within the residence.

Late last night a man and a woman, both aged 32 of St Leonards, were assisting police with their enquiries.
