Child seriously injured after being struck by vehicle in Claremont
Around 1pm police and emergency services attended a serious crash on Cadbury Road in Claremont where a child was struck by a vehicle.
A White Ford Focus driven by a Claremont woman was travelling north prior to Box Hill Road when it passed a broken down car.
As the car passed, a 4-year-old girl exited the broken down vehicle and ran onto the roadway where she was struck. At the time the male driver of the broken down car was working on the car with the bonnet up.
The child was transported by Ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital where she remains in a serious condition.
The driver of the Ford Focus was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police thank a passing doctor and nearby residents who provided first aid to the injured child until emergency services arrived at the scene.
Police Crash Investigation Services are investigating. Initial preliminary analysis indicates that speed was not a factor.
