Child hit by car on Midland Highway

At 7.30 pm on Tuesday 22 March 2011 Police were called to a report of a pedestrian knocked down on the Midland Highway at Mangalore.  Police attended and identified that a 7 year old boy from Mangalore had been struck by a vehicle travelling south in the 100 km/h zone.

The scene was attended by the Tasmanian Ambulance Service.  The child had sustained a broken leg and was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a reported stable condition.

The child had been hit by a south travelling sedan driven by a 19 year old woman from Moonah.  Enquiries established the child was struck at approximately 80 km/h in a glancing blow.  Alcohol has been excluded as a contributing factor.
