A single vehicle truck rollover occurred on the Bass Highway at Chasm Creek, Burnie, at approximately 6:30am this morning.

The vehicle involved is a laden gas tanker which came to rest on its side between the east and west bound lanes.

The tankers contents are stable and there are no concerns for public safety.

At present lanes in both directions are restricted to one lane only and significant delays can be expected for several hours.

Emergency crews are presently awaiting the arrival of technicians who will decant gas from the crashed tanker into another unit.

The Bass Highway will be closed for approximately 1 hour to enable this to occur. During this time traffic will again be diverted via Stowport.

Any non-essential travel should be delayed if possible and motorists are requested to drive with caution in the area as recovery crews are working.
