Charges re house fire, Queenstown

In the early hours of Thursday 10 February 2011, a fire occurred at a Penghana Road residence at Queenstown.  Extensive damage in excess of $200,000 occurred as a result. Subsequent examinations of the scene determined that the fire had been deliberately lit.

As the result of an investigation conducted by Burnie CIB and Queenstown Police, a 30-year-old Queenstown man was charged with aggravated burglary and arson in relation to the fire.  He was bailed with strict conditions to appear at the Queenstown CPS at a later date.

A 25-year-old Queenstown man will be proceeded against by summons in relation to the incident; and is currently in custody regarding an unrelated matter.

Detectives continue to investigate the possible involvement of a third person.

Residents of Queenstown can be assured, with investigations having revealed that the fire was a targeted act and not a random incident.
