Charges over the supply of alcohol to a youth
Northern District Licensing Police investigating a complaint from the public have arrested and charged a nineteen year old Invermay man with Supplying Liquor to a Youth on Private Premises.
Police will allege that the man went to an Invermay bottle shop and purchased a large amount of liquor which he then supplied to a number of fourteen and fifteen year old youths during a party at his residence on the 11th of March. He did not have the permission of the youth’s parents to do so and did not provide responsible supervision.
It is alleged that one of the fourteen year olds became so drunk that he lost consciousness and was repeatedly vomiting. He was left unattended and in such a position that his life was put at risk.
It is an offence to sell or supply liquor to a minor on private premises without the permission of their parent or legal guardian. Then it must be done in a responsible manner with regard to the provision of food and supervision to prevent the youth’s intoxication. The maximum penalty for the offence is a fine of $13,000 or 12 months in prison.
The man will appear in the Launceston Court of Petty Sessions on the 6th of June.
