Charges over taxi theft and assaults
Hobart Detectives last night charged two people in relation to assaults on taxi drivers and the theft of a taxi in the Hobart CBD in the early hours of yesterday morning.
An 18 year old Clarendon Vale man and an 18 year old Rokeby woman were charged with two counts of Assault, Motor Vehicle Stealing, Unlawfully Setting Fire to the Taxi and stealing personal property owned by one of the taxi drivers.
The charges relate to an incident at the Collins St taxi rank about 5am Sunday morning, where several taxi drivers came to the assistance of a driver whose taxi was being stolen.
The man is to appear in the Hobart Magistrate’s Court this morning and the woman was bailed to a later date.
Police are continuing enquiries to identify other persons who were involved in the assaults on the taxi drivers.
